LIGNICOAT Consortium Nears Project Completion – M36 Project Meeting in Stavanger

The LIGNICOAT consortium gathered in Stavanger, Norway, for its second-last meeting, marking the 36th month of the 42-month project. The two-day event began on June 19th with a visit to the Norwegian Bioprocessing and Fermentation Centre in Risavika, offering valuable insights into advanced bioprocessing techniques.

On June 20th, the consortium convened for a general assembly to review and discuss various work packages. The morning session focused on lignin intermediates and bioresins, with contributions from VITO, BARPIMO, and WESTLAKE Epoxy, emphasizing the depolymerization of lignin and the development of lignin-based epoxies and resins. Following this, the biocoating formulation session led by TECNALIA explored innovative formulations for fire protection, antimicrobial applications, and metal film coatings, with input from IRIS Coatings, BARPIMO, and AEP Polymers.

After a brief coffee break, ARDITEC Association presented the sustainability assessment of our lignin-based coatings, highlighting the environmental and economic impacts of the project. The afternoon included discussions on dissemination and exploitation strategies by AXIA Innovation GmbH, ensuring the project’s findings reach a broader audience and have a lasting impact. TECNALIA then addressed project management aspects, focusing on the final steps required to ensure the project’s successful completion.

With only five months remaining, the meeting underlined the significant progress made and the tasks ahead, setting the stage for the project’s final phase. The consortium’s dedication and collaborative efforts continue to drive the project towards its ambitious goals, promising impactful advancements in biocoatings and sustainable materials.
