The LIGNICOAT project is expected to be successfully completed within 42 months with the commitment of all partners involved. The work is built around 4 technical and 3 horizontal WPs.
WP1: Lignin based intermediates [Months: 1-18]
Leader: VITO
The main objective of WP1 is to deal with the initial steps of lignin based intermediates valorization. The activities of this WP will focus on the optimization, up-scaling, as well as the characterization of the intermediates and associated processes.
7 Deliverables (D1.1-1.7), 1 Milestone (MS2)
WP2: Bio-resins based on lignin [Months: 12-29]
Leader: BAR
WP2 aims to develop resins (epoxy, PUD and APUD, ALKYD) based on the developed lignin intermediates in WP1.
4 Deliverables (D2.1-2.4), 1 Milestone (MS4)
WP3: Bio-additives for coatings [Months: 1-29]
Leader: NOR
The main goal of WP3 is the development of bio-additives (Bio-encapsulated active compounds, Bio-additives with antimicrobial activities and Oxidative enzymes) in order to increase the bio-content and the sustainability of active surfaces.
5 Deliverables (D3.1-3.5), 1 Milestone (MS5)
WP4: Bio-coatings formulation [M20-42]
Leader: TEC
The main objective of WP4 is the development and validation of sustainable waterborne bio-based coatings including the bio-based resins of WP2, which constitute one of main components in the coating’ formulation. In addition, bio-based additives, composed in WP3, and bio-solvents will be also introduced wherever possible in order to achieve the highest bio-based content in the formulation.
4 Deliverables (D4.1-4.4), 2 Milestones (MS1,6)
WP5: Sustainability assessments [M1-42]
Leader: ARD
The main goal of WP5 is the evaluation of the environmental and social impacts of the target coating innovative solutions and the assessment of their economic feasibility. Moreover, the results of the sustainability assessments will be clarified and hotspots will be identified, leading to the proposal of recommendations during the project life cycle.
6 Deliverables (D4.1-4.6)
WP6: Dissemination and exploitation [M1-42]
Leader: AXIA
WP6 aims to communicate and disseminate appropriate information in order to raise awareness about the possible adaptation of the technologies to other fields related to bio-based chemicals and coatings with various applications. Additionally, WP6 will focus on exploitation activities aiming to engage interested stakeholders to adopt the developed technologies and bringing the developed products close to the market.
10 Deliverables (D6.1-6.10), 2 Milestones (MS3,7)
WP7: Management [M1-42]
Leader: TEC
The goal of WP7 is to perform proper management of the LIGNICOAT project. The WP will last for the whole project duration. The management structure will be based on a reduced number of members from each partner in order to keep the overall flexibility and swiftness of the decision process while preserving the technical objectives.
2 Deliverables (D7.1-7.2)
WP8: Ethics requirements [M1-42]
Leader: TEC
This work package sets out the ‘ethics requirements’ that the project must comply with.
