Conference proceeding published in the 10th Nordic Wood Biorefinery Conference Book

The proceedings book of the 10th Nordic Wood Biorefinery Conference (NWBC) was recently published and contains the proceeding by VTT and VITO under the “Engineered Lignin Product” section. The published proceeding is titled “Lignin-Based Polyacids to Substitute Fossil-Based Materials in Coatings Formulations”.

The work aimed to develop sustainable bio-based polyacids using lignin to replace fossil-based materials in polyester and alkyd resin coatings.

This was obtained through a process called LigniOx. The LigniOx technology, which oxidizes lignin under alkaline conditions, produces water-soluble polymeric lignin. In this study, the LigniOx process conditions have been adjusted to produce lignin-based polyacids for alkyd coatings.
